Terms of Service

The Maverick Mapmaker • Last updated: January 2026

The Short Version

You’re here to read maps and models for Solo Chiefs. I’m here to write them. Let’s not make this complicated.

By subscribing, you agree to be a reasonable human. I agree to keep writing things worth reading. If either of us fails, we part ways — no hard feelings.

What This Publication Is

The Maverick Mapmaker is a Substack publication by Jurgen Appelo. It offers essays, mental models, and occasional downloadable resources for solopreneurs, single founders, lone managers, and anyone else navigating sole accountability in the age of AI.

All posts are free. Paid subscriptions support the work and come with occasional extras.

What You’re Agreeing To

When you subscribe, you agree to:

  • Receive emails from me (you can unsubscribe anytime)

  • Not redistribute paid-subscriber-only content (let’s keep the extras special)

  • Be a decent human in the comments

When you pay, you understand:

  • Subscriptions are non-refundable, but if something’s wrong, email me — I’m reasonable

  • Your payment is processed by Substack and Stripe, not by me directly

  • Prices may change, but existing subscribers keep their rate until they cancel

Intellectual Property

Everything I publish here is my work (or clearly attributed if it isn’t). You’re welcome to quote, share, and link — that’s the point. But don’t copy entire posts, pass off my work as yours, or scrape the site for AI training data.

The maps are for navigating, not for stealing.

Disclaimers

I’m not your lawyer, accountant, therapist, or doctor. The content here is for informational and educational purposes. If you make business decisions based on my essays, that’s on you — I’m giving you maps, not guarantees.

I also reserve the right to be wrong, change my mind, and occasionally write something you disagree with. That’s the deal with independent thinking.

Termination

I can remove subscribers who violate these terms or behave badly. You can leave anytime by unsubscribing or canceling your paid subscription.

If the publication ever shuts down, I’ll let you know. You won’t be charged after cancellation.

Changes to These Terms

I may update these terms occasionally. If I do, I’ll note the date at the top. Continued use means you accept the changes.
